Braveheart Memorabilia Internet Auction ~ History of Acquisition
~ Braveheart the film.
The Wallace Clans involvement in the making of the Film "Braveheart",
was as substantial as any other unit of our size, from assistant
directors to fighting extras, the average size crew we had
on set numbered approximately fifty.
Like all others on the set, we worked long hard, and occasionally
dangerous hours! The last scene we were involved in, was the
last exterior scene, at night, where all of the Clan were
lying in the rainy wet Irish bog woodland, for almost six
hours, night scenes were slowly and painfully undertaken,
then someone remembered we were still there! A damp fatigued
Clan Wallace were met by everyone in the production crew,
with big hearts, warm faces, and a hot cup of tea! It was
an emotional end to what had been a roller coaster ride, through
all the emotions involved in such a project, we were glad
and sad, that this part of our involvement was over.
As we all exchanged personal gifts, interesting , and humorous
speeches were made by David Tomlin and Mel Gibson, that summed
up the bonding and relationship of the film, afterwards, we
headed to the wardrobe trucks to change for the last time,
when we met Sir Charles Noade, the designer and wardrobe master
of the film, as a gesture of goodwill and for the contribution
we had made overall, he asked us to accept, as a token of
our friendship, all the equipment we had, for the memory of
our experience. We were overwhelmed, after a while wearing
the same gear, it grows to fit you, we often referred to the
"kit" as our tartan five-o-ones!!
Like many of our fellow clansmen on that occasion, there was
a variety of equipment that we were using, that we were not
aware we had, although I personally was wearing the pre-Stirling
Bridge battle-jack of Mel Gibson, and many of the Clan crew
were in a similar position, believe me, when you are face
down in an Irish bog on a rainy night, you grab anything you
can, to keep you warm! Aware of this fact and honoured by
Sir Charles`s gift, and being a professional, we knew, he
knew, what he had gifted us, and if you were in our position
at five in the morning, you cannot thank a man like Sir Charles
for such a magnanimous gesture, and then ask him if he would
mind doing an inventory!! Hence the proud legacy of film memorabilia
from Braveheart.
As the years passed by, the equipment has served us well,
feeling that, these items will pass on down through time,
and become an integral part of the Clans history itself, but
a greater benefit to a wider community may be served if a
part of the funds raised, through relinquishing these collectables,
would allow Robroyston, the scene of Wallace`s Capture, to
be saved from destruction and preserved for posterity, and
a fitting tribute to one of Scotland`s finest sons, one of
Thousands, who gave their lives, for our freedom.
There also a number of other items that we may auction, from
Gladiator, Highlander, Rob Roy, Broadswords Claymores etc
but the importance of this Auction may mean that we concentrate
at this point in time, by releasing solely Braveheart Memorabilia,
or a part thereof.

which in the last scenes, he drops from his hand, at the moment
of….

As already the fragment of tartan has been released to other
good causes, barring privileged numbers a section may be released
early enabling individuals with a cash flow problem to bid
for an affordable item, offering a situation where fiscal
advantage gives way to association.
Certain artists and craft workers will be offered participation,
providing an appropriate item is presented, allowing a marketing
strategy to operate, whereby individuals who would wish to
purchase associated items out with the auction can purchase
